12 Years of Cobi Jones

As a Los Angeles Galaxy season ticket holder, I received a Cobi Jones commemorative calendar in the mail the day before Christmas. This calendar celebrates 12 years of Cobi being on the team!

He’s the only MLS player in history who has been on the same team for that long. Heck, he has been in the MLS since its first season – 12 years ago.

So, on the first of every month, I’ll honor Cobi by placing the photo for the month on this blog with the brief stats and message.

Congratulations CJ

Is Beckham Destined for the Los Angeles Galaxy?

With Beckham's removal from the English National Team (as captain) and his diminished stature at Real Madrid, the pot is brewing again (as it has once a month for the past few months) that Beckham may be ready to come to the MLS.

The Los Angeles Galaxy seems to be the team he'd come to since he's a Hollywood type and his wife has been caught searching for homes here in LA, but can the Los Angeles Galaxy GM (Alexi) make it happen?

As a Galaxy fan I've personally seen Alexi makes some bad calls and will he let Beckham slip by? Having Beckham replace Pete in the middle would be an interesting site - serving Landon and Quavas up front while partnering with Santino - nice! I can see it now.

With the MLS Designated Player Rule in place, it can happen..

Bradley names U.S. training camp roster

The U.S. National team beings practice under its new interim manager, Bob Bradley (formerly manager Chivas USA) in January. This team is wet behind the ears that's for sure. 22 of the 29 have only 5 caps. Their first game is January 20th in Carson (Home Depot Center) against Denmark.

This will be a great game to see in person and watch the chemistry issues that will be obvious in the first game.

U.S. Roster
Goalkeepers (4) - Joe Cannon (Los Angeles Galaxy), Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Troy Perkins (D.C. United), Matt Reis (New England Revolution).

Defenders (9) - Chris Albright (Los Angeles Galaxy), Bobby Boswell (D.C. United), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Bryan Namoff (D.C. United), Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution), Heath Pearce (FC Nordsjælland), Dasan Robinson (Chicago Fire), Eddie Robinson (Houston Dynamo).

Midfielders (10) - Kyle Beckerman (Colorado Rapids), Brian Carroll (D.C. United), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (New England Revolution), Joshua Gros (D.C. United), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Justin Mapp (Chicago Fire), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), Brian Mullan (Houston Dynamo), Pat Noonan (New England Revolution).

Forwards (6) - Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Alecko Eskandarian (D.C. United), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Nate Jaqua (Los Angeles Galaxy), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire), Taylor Twellman (New England Revolution).

I'm concerned that other great players like Houston's Duane Del Rosario failed to be called up again. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Hartman headed to Kansas City

In a disappointing move that was expected, Kevin Hartman was traded to the KC Wizards. With the new addition of Joe Cannon this month, it was questionable what would happen to Kevin.

However, lets take a moment to thank Kevin for all he's done during his 10 years at the LAG. Kevin, thanks.

The morale of the LAG must now be of great question to us fans as this team is close. Many are friends, roomates and long-time players. After coming in last this past season, a boost in morale is going to be a key challenge for Frank Y and Alexi L as we prepare to open the season agains Dallas.

Good luck Kevin!

Freddi Adu will not become Mormon

The writing is on the wall and Adu is glad. Lil Freddi never enjoyed his DC United coach, Peter Nowak and with his recent trial with EPL powerhouse Manchester United, buying a little time with his former under 17 coach John Ellinger of RSL is no problem.

You do have to wonder how happy he'll be in Utah. I doubt he's going to hook up and marry a Mormon gal - not that there's anything wrong with that. Actually, the chick in this photo could be one of those girls - Ha! But there's here big a** dad, ready to put a whipping on anybody who - well you know.

No doubt that Adu will get his playing time and we'll see how he does in the midfield. I still think the LAG will tatoo him.

Donovan had a bad 2006?

According to the ESPN Soccer net article at http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns
/story?id=394000&root=us&cc=5901, Landon Donovan had a terrible 2006. Why? Well according to the article, it all centered around not showing a stellar performance at the 2006 World Cup. My thought, give him a break.

I bet this writer never has played the game under pressure, regardless, you can have a bad game or tournament. The writer even points out how when Landon came back that the LaG started winning games, but that ooohhh, it just wasn't enough.

Please if Frank Yallop builds the team around just Donovan, then we're all in trouble in 2007. You can't expect one player to do it all...that's how it's done in the Mexican league, not the EPL or MLS!!!!!!

Galaxy Acquire Joe Cannon and ditch Hercules Gomez

The LA Galaxy traded with the Colorado Rapids for goalie Joe Cannon in return for LAG forward Hercules Gomez and defender Ugo Ihemelu.

This is a good trade! Backing up Hartman as he ends his career is smart and the LAG need more shut outs in 2007. Joe's stats: career record of 75-71-38, a 1.26 goals-against average and 51 shutouts in eight seasons with San Jose and Colorado. In 2006, Cannon was 9-11-7 with a 1.55 goals-against average and seven shutouts.

Hercules was inaffective in 2007, being over shadowed by Landon and unable to put it together up front. He lost his confidence. Kirk will be a fine replacement on the starting line for Hercules.

As for the loss of Ugo....as long as Tyron continues to remain healthy, I think we have a lot of options on the back line. I'd like to see Benditson, Benjamin and Jazic, Ante learn to team up with Chris Albright and Tyron Marshall

Go Galaxy!
